The Examination
Cats Only Veterinary Clinic is a full service medical facility limited strictly to the care and treatment of cats. To assure the best care for each patient our doctors require a complete physical examination before any clinical assessment can be made. If we have not seen your cat previously the initial examination is a thirty minute visit during which time the doctor will examine your cat thoroughly and discuss any problems or questions you may have. If needed, we will discuss routine care such as feeding and diet, flea control, litter box use, dental care, and behavior training.
Behavior counseling
Cats Only Veterinary Clinic takes problem behavior in cats very seriously. Each year more cats die from behavior issues than die from distemper, rabies, and leukemia combined. Thousands of cats are relinquished to shelters, abandoned or euthanized by frustrated owners who fail to find help in understanding and resolving what is often a normal behavior that becomes undesirable or intolerable to live with. We can help. Counseling charges are based on time and complexity. A complete physical examination is included to rule out any medical disease that may be contributing to the problem. Subsequent sessions may be done in the office with or without your cat, by phone, or by email.
Vaccines
Vaccines are not without possible side effects, so unlike most veterinary clinics Cats Only does not recommend every vaccination for every cat. Our doctors evaluate each patient to determine those diseases for which the cat is actually at risk, and based on that evaluation, will recommend only those vaccines necessary for your cat.
Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Testing
All cats should be tested negative for these common viral infections if not done previously. Infected cats can carry these viruses for years without showing symptoms, acting as a source of infection for other cats. Kittens can be infected from mother to kitten in utero or through nursing. Eventually infected cats will develop symptoms of infection including cancers, chronic infections and wasting, anemia, and immune disorders.
Deworming
Kittens are routinely dewormed twice, three weeks apart. Fecal analysis is then done to confirm successful deworming.
Spaying and Neutering
Cats Only believes strongly in controlling unwanted pets, because of this we offer these surgeries at a significantly reduced fee. Kittens are routinely spayed and neutered at the completion of their initial vaccination and preventative health program. There is no minimum or maximum age at which these surgeries can be done. With modern and safe anesthetics and newer surgical techniques these procedures can be done at any time. A complete pre-surgical examination to rule out any conditions that would put the patient at increased risk and current vaccinations are required. The fee above includes anesthesia, surgery, overnight hospitalization, and suture removal. Presurgical testing and pain medication are additional and will be based on the needs of each individual patient.
Declawing
Cats Only uses laser technology as our standard method for declawing. Laser surgery reduces pain, swelling, and bleeding during and after surgery significantly reducing the need for strong pain medications, bandaging, and extended recovery. This fee includes anesthesia, surgery and overnight hospitalization. Preanesthetic testing and pain medication are additional and will be based on the individual needs of the patient. Cats Only can also offer and guide you on alternatives to declawing. We offer nail caps and training suggestions that may eliminate the need for surgery.
